William Hartranft, President
Bill has been the President of Pilgrim Insurance Company since 2009. He also serves as Chief Financial Officer of Pilgrim’s affiliate, Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation, an office he has held since September 2007. Prior to joining the Plymouth Rock Group of Companies, Bill spent nearly seven years at Electric Insurance Company. He spent his first five years at Electric as the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis before being appointed Chief Financial Officer in December 2005. Prior to joining Electric, Bill spent over seven years at Ford Motor Company in a variety of financial analysis and managerial positions. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and an MBA from The Ohio State University.
Barry Tagen, Director of Operations
Barry is responsible for Pilgrim’s Operations. He joined Pilgrim in 1995 as an Underwriting Supervisor and was named Underwriting Manager in 1997 and Vice President of Underwriting in 2000. Before joining Pilgrim, Barry spent ten years at the Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriting Association in Boston, where he started as a Field Underwriting Representative and advanced to the position of Senior Underwriter. He earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Charles E. Alley, Underwriting Manager
Chuck is responsible for Pilgrim’s Underwriting and Customer Services operations. Chuck joined Pilgrim in 2002 with 26 years of experience in the insurance industry. He previously was a Territorial Underwriting Manager for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in Quincy, Mass., where he was responsible for personal lines business in New England, representing $80 million in premiums. Before that, he served in various positions at John Hancock Property and Casualty Insurance Cos. of Boston, including Assistant Vice President. As Assistant Vice President, he was responsible for marketing, underwriting, customer service and IT support for a field force of 120 independent agencies. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass.
Patrick W. Avery, Claims Manager
Patrick joined Pilgrim Insurance Company in 2007. Patrick is responsible for all claims teams including Physical Damage, Subrogation, SIU, Bodily Injury, PIP and Operations. Prior to joining Pilgrim, Patrick was with State Farm Insurance Companies for more than thirteen years. In addition to his extensive insurance and claims management experience, Patrick holds a B.S. Degree in Business Management from Ithaca College and also holds a variety of insurance designations including CPCU, AIC and INS.
Joseph L. Mullen, Controller
Joe joined Pilgrim Insurance Company in 2001, as the Corporate Controller and Director of Finance. Prior to joining Pilgrim, Joe was the controller of an international research and consulting company and a local real estate development firm. Before that, he worked at our affiliate, Plymouth Rock Assurance, for eight years in various accounting and finance positions. He also worked at Ernst & Young and GTE Sylvania. Joe is a certified public accountant. He holds a B.S, Degree in Accounting from Boston College and a MBA with a Concentration in Finance from Babson College.
